Evgenii Imyanitov studies molecular mechanisms of cancer as well as molecular diagnosis in oncology. His team takes leading positions in the study of hereditary tumour syndromes in our country. Professor Imyanitov demonstrated the “founder effect” in Russian female patients with a family history of breast and ovarian cancer, which significantly simplified its diagnosis and helped put it into practice across Russia. In 2012 he discovered BLM, a new gene of hereditary breast cancer. Professor Imyanitov is also searching for molecular-genetic markers that can predict the range of tumour sensitivity to different drugs and, hence, customise cancer therapy. He supervised the development of methods for molecular-genetic analysis of archival biological material, integration of mutation tests for selection of target drugs and implementation of clinical trials focused on patient screening by the tumour’s molecular profile.
