Endocrine therapy (ET) is a type of antineoplastic treatment, which functions by blocking the effect of hormone at the receptor level or by inhibiting its production in order to block tumor growth. This type of systemic treatment is currently used as a treatment modality for hormone-sensitive tumors such as breast cancer, prostate cancer and cancer uteri. ET can be used alone or in combination with other treatment options such as surgery, radiotherapy or chemotherapy/targeted agents.
