Over the past 25 years, significant advances have been made in the development of targeted therapy for breast cancer (BC). This has become possible due to the rapid development of molecular biology and, as a result, a deeper understanding of the factors underlying malignant transformation in various tumors in general and BC in particular. This has contributed to the evolution of BC treatment in favor of a more personalized approach based on the molecular profile of a particular patient’s tumor. This article provides an overview of the history of targeted therapy for BC and actual information on its current status.
